SOFT SKILLS AND EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE
In the industry, numerous capabilities are demanded from an individual on the job. The ability to deliver on a job goes beyond the intelligence quotient of an individual as it can only help get a job. Hence, in bid to enjoy job security, it is paramount for an individual to possess both soft skills and emotional intelligence.
Soft skills entail a combination of personality traits, behaviors, and social attitudes that boost the proficiency of an individual in communication, conflict resolution, adaptability to change, etc. Some of these skills include problem-solving, analytical/critical thinking, leadership, communication, and stress management. Individuals with soft skills tend to showcase strong situational awareness and emotional intelligence which is key to navigating through challenging work conditions while still ensuring optimal productivity.
Soft-skilled individuals exhibit a trait termed Emotional Intelligence also known as Emotional Quotient (EQ) which is the ability to recognize, understand and manage the emotions of one’s self and of others. It is commonly defined by four attributes which are: Self- management, self-awareness, social awareness, and relationship management. Therefore, soft skills and emotional intelligence are key to the performance of an individual in the handling of a job.
