LIQUEFIED PETROLEUM GAS AS AN ESSENTIAL COMMODITY
Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is a mixture of flammable hydrocarbon gases such as butane, and propane emitted as byproducts of oil or gas production process. LPG which weighs twice as much as air is colorless, odorless, and non-toxic but if inhaled in considerable amount might cause an anesthetic effect.

With the increase in energy demand, liquefied natural gas has been in the spotlight due to its vast area of applications. As a fuel, it is heavily utilized in homes for heating and cooking, used in automobiles, refrigeration, agriculture, and the catering industry. This shift in paradigm in liquefied  petroleum gas usage is dependent  on some key factors; LPG consumption in households is increasing considerably due to a number of factors;

  • Increase in awareness of its potentials
  • Increase  in  production  and availability of the gas
  • Lower cost of purchase

LPG use cuts across residential, industrial/ commercial,  transport  & non-energy sectors.  The chart below describes the various level of demand for LPG from these sectors.
