Master of Science in Petroleum Project Development and Energy Transition

Introduction

The University of Port Harcourt (Nigeria), and the IFP School (France) have associated their experiences in Research and Teaching in the field of petroleum engineering (reservoir characterisation and reservoir engineering, drilling, oil and gas production, and field management) to jointly award a Master's Degree in Petroleum Project Development and Energy Transition.

The Master's Degree programme will prepare engineers (newly graduated or with a few years of industrial experience) for teamwork in oil and gas field development and management.

By associating Nigerian and French cultures, the programme also prepares the students to work in international teams, as required now by the oil and gas industry.

Nigeria, as a major player in the international oil and gas industry and in particular in the Gulf of Guinea, will benefit from this multidisciplinary programme and the high technical competence of our graduates.

The programme aims to provide the students with broad-based training required for onshore and offshore oil and gas field development. On completion of the master’s programme, the graduates will, among other skills, be able to:

  • Understand the context of Energy Transition.
  • Evaluate and manage oil and gas fields, with the necessary approaches to minimize carbon emissions.
  • Design and supervise the drilling of exploration and development wells and carry out drilling optimization programs.
  • Design, supervise, and evaluate well completion, workover and well stimulation programs.
  • Design and operate onshore and offshore oil and gas production facilities.
  • Carry out production optimization and well-performance enhancement programmes.
  • Participate effectively in multidisciplinary oil and gas field review and field development teams.

Come and experience the IPES.
This MSc programme will prepare you for the next steps in your career and you will learn from experts and industry leaders.

The Institute’s faculty is made up of lecturers and resource persons from the University of Port Harcourt (Uniport) and other universities in Nigeria, IFP School, France, and experts from the Energy industry in Nigeria and the diaspora.  Learning is supported by modern-day, state-of-the-art, and industry software. Students will participate in field and laboratory visits and reviews of field case studies.

The Institute offers a conducive learning environment, equipped with internet access, and a physical and virtual library, with access provided to students to relevant information technology tools.

Programme Duration:
The programme is an intensive full-time study programme that runs for twelve (12) calendar months, non-stop. The programme cannot be truncated, and it is residential.

  • Career openings :
On completion of the Reservoir Engineering, Drilling, Production, and Project Development Modules, participants are expected to be:
Highly competitive for positions in the upstream oil and gas industry (international operators, national companies, service companies, or governmental bodies)

Prepared for work in reservoir appraisal, drilling and production optimisation and field development projects in an international context.

As a result of multidisciplinary skills developed during this course, the graduates are expected to quickly achieve technical and project management positions.

  • Employment:
IPES graduates have the opportunity to undertake a 1-year internship programme with TotalEnergies. The Institute has produced graduates who have consistently attained a 91% employability rate in the oil and gas industry on graduation.

Graduates employed by multinational Oil and Gas Producing, and Services companies.

  • Degrees awarded:
Upon successful completion of the course, graduates will be awarded:
- Master of Science Degree in Petroleum Project Development and Energy Transition
Jointly awarded by UNIPORT and IFP School (France)
