Introduction
The University of Port Harcourt (Nigeria), and the IFP School (France) have associated their experiences in Research and Teaching in the field of petroleum engineering (reservoir characterisation and reservoir engineering, drilling, oil and gas production, and field management) to jointly award a Master's Degree in Petroleum Project Development and Energy Transition.
The Master's Degree programme will prepare engineers (newly graduated or with a few years of industrial experience) for teamwork in oil and gas field development and management.
By associating Nigerian and French cultures, the programme also prepares the students to work in international teams, as required now by the oil and gas industry.
Nigeria, as a major player in the international oil and gas industry and in particular in the Gulf of Guinea, will benefit from this multidisciplinary programme and the high technical competence of our graduates.
The programme aims to provide the students with broad-based training required for onshore and offshore oil and gas field development. On completion of the master’s programme, the graduates will, among other skills, be able to:
- Understand the context of Energy Transition.
- Evaluate and manage oil and gas fields, with the necessary approaches to minimize carbon emissions.
- Design and supervise the drilling of exploration and development wells and carry out drilling optimization programs.
- Design, supervise, and evaluate well completion, workover and well stimulation programs.
- Design and operate onshore and offshore oil and gas production facilities.
- Carry out production optimization and well-performance enhancement programmes.
- Participate effectively in multidisciplinary oil and gas field review and field development teams.
