02. Aptitude Test
Candidates who meet all the requirements would be required to take an aptitude test. Successful candidates would be invited for an oral interview
03. Oral Interview
The oral interview is the last phase of the application process. Successful candidates from the phase would be offered admission
Admission into the Post Graduate Diploma in Petroleum Technology (PGDPT) for the 2025/2026 Academic Session
Introduction:
The Postgraduate Diploma in Petroleum Technology programme targets candidates from oil and gas producing communities and others seeking to pursue a career in the petroleum and energy industry for sustainable development. The Institute's faculty is made up of lecturers and resource persons from the University of Port Harcourt, (Uniport), other universities in Nigeria and experts from the petroleum and energy industry. The Institute provides a conducive learning environment, full Internet access, a virtual library, and hands-on training. Students use State-of-the-art software, and industry case studies and undertake field visits. Students are encouraged to live and work together to develop a team spirit. On completion of the programme, students are offered a one-year internship with TotalEnergies EP Nigeria Limited. They can also progress to the prestigious Masters of Science (MSc) degree in Petroleum Project Development and Energy Transition programme at the Institute.
Programme Duration:
The programme is an intensive full-time programme that runs for twelve (12) calendar months. The programme is not affected by industrial actions and is fully residential. Fees are non-refundable.
Award of Diploma:
Successful candidates shall be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Petroleum Technology (PGDPT) from the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

A candidate who seeks admission to the PGDPT must have one of the following admission requirements:

The programme is tuition-paying and successfully admitted candidates shall be responsible for their tuition or seek sponsorship. However, successfully admitted candidates from the OBAGI OIL FIELDS Host Communities Development Trust (HCDT) which comprises: Akabuka, Amah, Egi Clan, Idu Obosiukwu, Obagi, Obite, Ogbogu, Rumuekpe, Ekpeye Clan and Oboburu have guaranteed full sponsorship.

- Bachelor’s degree from an NUC accredited or internationally recognized physical sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Geology, Geophysics including Science Laboratory Technology (SLT)) programme with second-class lower division
- Candidate must have completed NYSC

The programme aims to provide the students with broad-based training required for onshore and offshore oil and gas field development. On completion of the Masters’ Programme, the graduates will among other skills, be able to:

- Evaluate and manage oil and gas fields, with the necessary approaches to minimize carbon emissions.
- Design and supervise the drilling of exploration and development wells and carry out drilling optimization programmes.
- Design, supervise, and evaluate well completion, workover and well stimulation programmes.
- Design and operate onshore and offshore oil and gas production facilities.
- Carry out production optimization and well performance enhancement programmes.
- Participate effectively in multidisciplinary oil and gas field review and field development teams.

- Post HND (bachelor’s degree) from an NUC accredited Engineering programme with a minimum of second-class upper division is also accepted.
- Bachelor’s degree from an NUC accredited Engineering or physical sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Geology, Geophysics, including Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) programme, with second-class lower division, and having a post graduate diploma from IPES PGD programme or any other PGD programme in Petroleum Engineering.
- Bachelor’s degree from an NUC accredited Engineering programme with second-class lower division, having three (3) years of relevant work experience in the Oil and Gas industry.
- Candidates with a background in Applied Mathematics, Geophysics, Applied Chemistry (Industrial Chemistry), and Applied Physics, with a minimum of second-class upper division and relevant work experience (minimum of 4 years) in the Oil and Gas industry will be considered.
